Sustainability at Maison BARRÉ & Co.

At Maison BARRÉ & Co., sustainability begins with the materials we choose and the hands that shape them.

Our handbags, accessories and home decor products are primarily crafted from natural plant fibers—junco and toquilla—sourced in Peru. Harvested from reeds that grow in wetlands along the northern coast near Lima,

these fibers are known for their strength, durability, and beautiful organic texture. Each strand is carefully dyed using traditional processes, creating vibrant hues while respecting the natural qualities of the material.

Every piece is handwoven by skilled artisans in small batches, preserving time-honored techniques passed down through generations. The fibers themselves are plant-based and biodegradable, reflecting our commitment to materials that are both beautiful and responsible.

Inside, our handbags are thoughtfully finished with natural cotton linings, chosen to protect the structure of the bag while remaining consistent with our eco-conscious approach. Additional details—like vegetable-tanned suede accents, or hand carved wooden handles—add both strength and refined texture.

Versatility is also part of our design philosophy. Many of our handbags feature interchangeable straps and accents, allowing each piece to adapt to different styles and occasions. These elements include wooden bead straps, chain-accented faux suede crossbody straps, premium vegetable-tanned leather details, and light gold-tone connector rings that elevate and personalize each bag.

Our commitment to craftsmanship extends to the finishing touches. Each handbag carries a Maison BARRÉ & Co. leather label, carefully stamped and sewn onto the exterior as a signature of authenticity.

We have also chosen packaging that aligns with our values. Instead of disposable shopping bags, every piece arrives in a handcrafted branded dust pouch designed to be reused and cherished—reducing waste while extending the life and story of the product.

For Maison BARRÉ & Co., sustainability is not a single feature. It is a thoughtful approach that brings together natural materials, traditional craftsmanship, and timeless design.
